How much do AI chat apps cost in India?

None of these apps publish official rupee pricing. They bill in US dollars, so what you pay depends on your bank or app store's rate on the day, plus any card or forex fee. The rupee figures below are approximate conversions taken on 24 September 2026, and they will drift.

Why is the weekly plan a bad deal for Indian users?

This is the most expensive mistake in the comparison, and it is easy to make because ₹840 for a week sounds small. Do the monthly maths. Chai's weekly plan is $9.99 a week. Four billing weeks is about $40 — roughly ₹3,360 a month. Character.AI's c.ai+ is $9.99 for a whole month, about ₹840. So a month on Chai's weekly plan costs about four times a month of c.ai+, for an app that is English-first.

Chai's own annual plan is $159.99, about ₹13,440, which works out at roughly $13.33 (about ₹1,120) a month. Staying on the weekly plan for a year costs several times that. If you chat on Chai every day, the annual plan is the rational choice. If you are not sure you will still be using it in three months, do not start the weekly plan to "try it" — use the free tier and live with the ads.

Is c.ai+ worth it?

It depends on how often you open the app.

It is worth it if Character.AI is your main chat app and you use it most days. At $9.99/month (about ₹840) it removes the mid-chat ads, lifts the metered swipes and regenerations, and gives faster access when the servers are busy. That is roughly ₹28 a day.

It is not worth it if you open the app once or twice a week.
