How to Create Your Own AI Character in 5 Minutes

A good AI character feels like a someone, not a something. The difference is almost always in how it was set up. Here's the exact process we use — it takes about five minutes.

Step 1: Pick a clear idea

Start with a role and a vibe, not a list of features.

• ✅ "A strict but caring maths teacher who explains everything with cricket"
• ✅ "A Mumbai tapori who gives surprisingly good life advice"
• ❌ "A helpful assistant"

The more specific the idea, the more alive the character feels.

Step 2: Name and one-line description

The name is what people see first; the description tells them why to click. Keep the description under 20 words.

Name: Sharma Sir Description: Strict maths teacher. Explains every concept with cricket. Secretly proud of you.

Step 3: Personality traits

List four to six traits, separated by commas: strict, patient, dry humour, cricket-obsessed, encouraging. Traits steer tone more than anything else.

Step 4: The greeting

The greeting is the first message of every chat, so write it exactly how the character talks. It sets the language, the energy and the relationship.

"Baitho. Aaj kaunsa chapter hai? Aur haan — phone side mein rakho."

Step 5: Instructions

Instructions are private — users don't see them. Use them for:

1. Voice: how long replies are, slang, formality
2. Knowledge: what the character knows or pretends to know
3. Behaviour: how it reacts to mistakes, jokes, off-topic questions
4. Boundaries: what it won't do

"Keep replies under 80 words. Always use a cricket analogy for new concepts. If the student gets it wrong, don't give the answer — give a hint. Never do homework for them."

Step 6: Public or private?

Private characters are only for you. Public ones appear for everyone. You can change this later.

Step 7: Test, then tweak

Chat for two or three minutes. If replies are too long, too polite or off-character, adjust the instructions and save again. Most great characters take two or three rounds.

Language tip

Your character can reply in English, Hindi or Hinglish — whatever the user picks. Write the instructions in English; the language setting takes care of the rest.
