Character AI Login Not Working? C AI Log In Fixes (2026)
Most c ai log in problems come from four things: (1) signing in with a different method or email than the one you registered with, (2) the email sign-in link landing in spam or expiring, (3) trying an old login method (Discord, Facebook or password) that Character.AI discontinued in 2024, or (4) an age-assurance check that looks like a login problem. Current sign-in options are Continue with Google, Continue with Apple and an email verification link. Always type character.ai yourself or use the official app.

Fast checklist
- Use the same Google/Apple account or email you signed up with.
- Check spam, promotions and updates folders for the link; request a new one after a few minutes.
- Discord/Facebook/password login no longer exist. Use the email link with the same email.
- Being asked for a selfie or ID? That's age assurance, not a bug.
- Everything broken for everyone? It's probably an outage. Wait.
How Character AI login works in 2026
According to Character.AI's help centre article on the login update, since July 2024 you can sign in three ways:

Discontinued: Discord login, Facebook login and email + password.
Fix 1: "My account is empty / my chats are gone"
This is the most common "login" issue, and the account is usually fine.
- You probably signed in with a different method (Google instead of Apple) or a different Gmail. Sign out and try the other one.
- If you used Apple "Hide my email" before, signing in with your real email creates a new account. Use Continue with Apple again.
- Check that you're on character.ai and not a lookalike site.
If you had chats on the retired beta.character.ai site, Character.AI says that site was fully retired on 24 September 2024, with chats migrated to the current site. More in our Character AI review.
Fix 2: "The email login link never arrives"
- Look in spam, promotions and updates. Search your inbox for "Character.AI".
- Wait a few minutes before requesting another link; older links may stop working.
- Open the link on the same device and browser where you requested it.
- Corporate or college email filters sometimes block these links. Try a personal email if you're creating a new account.
Fix 3: "I used to log in with Discord or a password"
Those methods were removed. Choose email verification link and enter the same email that was attached to your old account. If you can't access that email any more, contact support through the help centre. Ignore anyone on Reddit, Discord or Instagram who offers to "recover" your account for money or codes.
Fix 4: "It's asking me to verify my age"
Since 25 November 2025, users under 18 can't have open-ended chats, and Character.AI uses age assurance to enforce this. If the system isn't sure you're an adult, it may ask for a selfie check (via Persona) or an ID. In 2026 there were widespread reports of adults being misclassified.
What you can do:
- Follow only the official in-app steps. Use good lighting and a plain background for any selfie check.
- If you'd rather not share a face scan or ID, contact official support to ask about options.
- Don't use "bypass" tricks, fake IDs or third-party tools; they can get your account banned.
Fix 5: "The login button does nothing / keeps loading"
- Disable ad blockers and privacy extensions for character.ai, then reload.
- Allow pop-ups and third-party cookies for Google or Apple sign-in temporarily.
- Clear cookies and cache for character.ai, or try a private window or another browser.
- On mobile, update the official app. If the app fails, try the website (and vice versa).
Fix 6: C ai app not working
- Update from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store only.
- Android: Settings → Apps → Character AI → Storage → Clear cache.
- Don't install "character ai apk" or "old version" files from other sites. They're unofficial and can carry malware or get your account banned.
Fix 7: Is Character AI down?
If it fails on Wi-Fi and mobile data, on the app and website, it's likely an outage. Check the official status or social channels and the r/CharacterAI subreddit. The fix is to wait. Save anything you care about outside the app.
