Character.AI (often shortened to c.ai) is still the biggest name in AI character chat, with a huge user-made library and good creation tools. It is still worth trying for free. In 2026, though, the free tier has mid-chat ads and limited swipes. Users under 18 can no longer do open-ended chat. Some adults have been locked out by age checks. c.ai+ ($9.99/month) removes most of the friction. If you mostly chat in Hindi or Hinglish, a product built for that may suit you better.
Janitor AI Review 2026: What It Is, Is It Free, and Is It Safe?
Janitor AI (janitorai.com) is a free, adults-only website and app for chatting with AI characters made by its community. Chai is an AI chat app where people create AI characters ("bots") and share them in a swipeable feed, and anyone can chat with them. It's made by Chai Research, founded in 2021 by William Beauchamp, and runs on iOS, Android and the web at chai-ai.com. The app is free with daily limits and ads. Chai Pro costs $159.99/year (about ₹13,440) or $9.99/week, and removes ads and limits. It's rated 18+. Avoid "Chai premium APK" downloads: they're unofficial, often unsafe, and against the app's terms. If Chai is down, it's usually a temporary outage you have to wait out.
